The Daily Texture for 11/05/2015 |
I absolutely LOVE Today's Daily Texture! Who ever thought RAIN could be so inspiring? It certainly was with this one. I used this texture to pair with a photo of a Nuthatch. First, I placed the photo on top of the texture and blended away her background, slightly leaving a little of the tree trunk she was perched on visible. Then I went back to the base texture layer and duplicated it, setting it on multiply at about 50%. This darkened things a bit, which is what I wanted, especially at the bottom. Then I duplicated the texture layer again, and placed this one on top of the bird, setting it to soft light at 100%. I masked a little of this layer off the bird, but left it over the background. The I duplicated that layer again, and set it to soft light at 50%, which darkened things around the edges a bit more and gave a nice glow of light around her head. At this point, I merged everything, and I could have stopped there. But the bird photo was a bit more noisy than I liked, especially in comparison with the texture. I suffer with this noise issue a lot with my birds, because I usually shoot them at a higher ISO to be able to capture their movement without blurring. I had denoised the photo before I worked with it, but it still wasn't enough for my liking. | Like this texture? Buy it here. Commercial Use OK. |

Red Velvet Cupcake
It's odd, the things that inspire me. From one day to the next, I never know what it will be that inspires the next texture. For this one, it was cupcakes. My daughter loves making them, and she made some red velvet cupcakes. Not only were they delicious, but so were the colors! So, Today's Daily Texture was inspired by them. :) I paired the texture with a beautiful white horse I met recently. I think the red is a great contrast for her fur. I used the texture as a background, and then as a soft light layer on top at about 50%, with some of that layer masked off her face. |

Fall Color Pop
This texture is bursting with brilliant fall colors! I paired it with a beautiful blue heron I photographed at Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee a couple weeks ago. Originally, I had the bird on the right, facing to the left, with the texture underneath. Something wasn't quite right...and here comes a valuable tip: when you're masking away a background with the texture underneath the subject and things aren't quite suitable for you, move your subject layer around, as it can create a whole new perspective! First, I moved the bird layer farther to the right, but that still didn't appeal to me. Finally, I chose to mirror image {reverse} the bird layer, which placed him on the left. And then I knew it was right...the contrast between his stunning blue feathers and that pop of orange made the image for me! |
